Artist Statement
My name is Betsy and I’m a self taught artist that lives in San Diego. I am a passionate person who used to work in foreign policy and national security. Due to a degenerative neuromuscular disease I had to retire, but it also led me to open my heart and soul to find my passion for painting and become a full time abstract artist.
When people see my art and love it, there isn’t a better feeling. To share my passion and creation with others fills my soul. One of the greatest joys is to watch people’s’ reaction to my artwork - when a piece “speaks” to someone, or triggers an emotional response, I know they have to have it no matter what.
When I start a painting I have no idea what’s going to come out. I take a deep breathe and out comes a part of my heart and soul.
It’s only as the paint and my brush flow that I find the direction I’m heading - which goes with my wanderlust personality. I’ve traveled a lot and have found that my best adventures and experiences were when I was “lost or didn’t have a plan.”
The act of creating is not only special, it is a privilege because it’s a way to communicate and connect with friends and strangers that I never dreamed possible.
